MONTPELIER – Climate activists dressed up in skeleton costumes plan to swarm the intersection of State and Main streets between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Friday.
The group plans to bang pots and pans, chant and carry signs. They are protesting piplines, tar sands and fracking.
Vermont Gas has advanced with plans to build a natural gas pipeline under Lake Champlain. The Trailbreaker project has proposed carrying tar sands, which can be processed and refined into oil, from Montreal across the Northeast Kingdom to the Maine coast. The local group is also taking issue with the Keystone XL Pipeline, which hopes to make a line active by 2015 from Alberta, Canada to Nebraska.
